Non-Fatal Dellwood Avenue Shooting Defendant Rejects Plea

Judge Grants Defense Counsel Trial Postponement in Pennsylvania Avenue Non-Fatal Shooting Case

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn granted defense counsel Josh Insley trial postponement request due to counsel recently being assigned the case on March 27.  Insley informed the court he needed more time to properly prepare after being appointed defendant, Calvin Hemphill file.  Hemphill, 42, is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, possession of a firearm with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, possession of a firearm after a felony conviction for a controlled dangerous substance, having a loaded handgun on his person, and discharging a firearm in connection to the shooting of a 53-year-old man on April 17, 2022.  According to a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) news release, on the day of the incident, officers were called to the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at 8:49 p.m. Read more »
