The trial of a 44-year-old defendant charged with attempted murder got underway before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong on Aug. 6.

Juan Jumal Foster is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, possession of firearm in a controlled dangerous substance offense, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in his vehicle and discharging firearms.

In an opening statement the prosecutor said the victim, a father of two, was shot while walking from his home to a store on the 3800 block of Tivoly Avenue.

On May 11, 2022, the victim’s co-parenting partnerAmber Robinson Bijou, who is also the co-defendant returned home.

After asking Bijou to watch the children the victim went out, and found Bijou’s car parked outside with loud music playing. As the victim approached the vehicle, Foster allegedly shot him from the passenger’s side seat.

The prosecutor pointed out Foster’s in a romantic relationship with Bijou.

The gun was fired three times. “This could have gone in a very different way”, the prosecution said.

The victim is expected to testify during the trial. The prosecution also indicated that evidence such as cell phone records, data, and fingerprints would be presented.

The prosecutor concluded by stating the state believes Foster’s guilty on all charges.
