Prosecutor Dismisses Grace Court Non-Fatal Shooting Case

On Aug. 21, a prosecutor dismissed an attempted murder case against a 22-year-old defendant before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams. 

The assistant state’s attorney assigned to Damon Petree’s case explained that he did not have the necessary witnesses to proceed with trial against the defendant. Defense attorney Todd Oppenheim had no comments. 

According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Petree was charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, assault in the first- and second-degree, conspiracy of assault in the first- and second-degree, reckless endangerment, firearm use in a felony violent crime, carrying/wearing a handgun, and discharging a firearm.

Court documents state that on Oct. 22, 2022, patrol officers responded to a shooting on the 4200 block of Grace Court. When they arrived, officer’s found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound on his right leg/groin. Officers were then directed by witnesses where the suspect had run after the shooting.

According to the court documents, witnesses revealed that Petree and the victim had gotten into an argument. During the argument the defendant’s mother, told him to go into their home and retrieve a weapon. As was told, Petree returned with a weapon, which a CCTV video confirmed was a gun. Petree began to shoot at the victim and others who were standing on the street resulting in the shooting of the victim.
