The Baltimore Police Department released the body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting on May 13.

Around 9 p.m. on May 13, Eastern District officers were called to the 2200 block of E. Biddle Street where a vehicle taken in an armed robbery was seen, a press release states. Two Eastern District Action Team (DAT) officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver, while another officer, Thomas Smith, went into the parking lot on foot.

According to a press release, the driver refused to listen to the DAT officers and ran his vehicle into Smith, who then fired two shots through the vehicle’s front windshield. The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Corey Dixon, was shot in the left hand and left shoulder.

Police said Dixon attempted to drive away but hit a parked vehicle on the 2000 block of E. Preston Street. After a brief foot chase, Dixon was apprehended and taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital to get treated for his injuries.

Smith was also taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital for his injuries.

Dixon, who is a person of interest in other potential cases, was charged with second-degree assault as well as several traffic violations.

The Special Investigation Response Team (S.I.R.T.) is continuing their investigation.
