Non-Fatal Shooting Defendant Rejects Plea Offer

Defendant Nadeem Tajdin and his defense lawyer, Robert Cohen, rejected a prosecution plea offer before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Tajdin, 49, is charged with two counts each of first-and second-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime and firing a gun in Baltimore City.

On Sept. 11, the prosecution presented a plea offer of 25 years, suspending all but 10 years, with five years of supervised probation for two counts of first-degree assault, and 10 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole to run consecutively for firearm use in a felony violent crime. The aggregate proposed sentence was for 25 years, suspending all but 20 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole with five years of supervised probation upon release.

Tajdin rejected the plea offer. Judge Phinn set his trial date for Dec. 14.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, a witness reported the shooting to a Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officer on March 7, the day after it happened. The incident occurred on the 3700 block of Edmondson Avenue. A witness positively identified Tajdin by photo array as the individual who wounded the victim with a shotgun. Tajdin was allegedly seen on surveillance camera footage pointing the shotgun, shooting the victim and reloading the weapon.
