Homicide defendant Uriah Cunningham, 32, rejected an all but life sentence before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland who also scheduled a trial date in a Feb.7 hearing.
The defendant was arrested on Oct. 5, 2024, in connection to the murder of 43-year- old Melvin Rogers on Sep. 29, 2024, in the 1800 block of Wilhelm Street.
Cunningham is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, regulated illegal firearm possession, and having a loaded handgun in his vehicle and on his person.
He rejected a plea offer of life, suspending all but 55 years, for the charge of first-degree murder, as well as five years of supervised probation and registration under the Gun Offender Registry Act. For firearm-related charges, Cunningham would have received a concurrent 20 years, the first five without the possibility of parole.
Cunningham will return April 7 for a 4-day trial with defense attorney Staci Pipkin.
