A Baltimore woman charged with the death of her two children was granted an extended competency evaluation in mental health court on Sept. 29 before Baltimore City Circuit Judge Gale E. Rasin.

Jameria Hall, 29, is charged in connection to the brutal murder of her two children, ages 6 and 8, on Aug. 28. She is facing two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree child abuse resulting in death, and the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure.

On Wednesday, Hall was granted a waiver of appearance for her arraignment set in the Mitchell Courthouse on Oct. 14.

According to the Baltimore Sun, police were called to investigate a “foul smell” coming from the family’s apartment on the 500 block of Coventry Road a day earlier. When they arrived, police found the decomposing bodies of 6-year-old Da’Neria Thomas and 8-year-old Davin Thomas.

Davin was found in a sleeping bag in the living room with a large knife still stuck in his chest and a trash bag wrapped around his head, the Baltimore Sun reported. His sister, Da’Neria, was found drowned and strangled in the bathroom—her body dumped in the bathtub with clothing wrapped around her neck.

Neighbors told police that Hall was last seen outside with her children on the night of Aug. 19, when they heard Da’Neria scream, “Mommy, no.”

The Regional Auto Theft Task Force found Hall taking an Uber in Baltimore County, where she was taken into police custody and confessed to the killings.

The police commissioner held a conference on the murders on Aug. 25.
