Manslaughter defendant Gardnel Carter is expected to be sentenced in Baltimore City Circuit Court this September upon agreeing to plead guilty to the death of Charles Buster Banks in 2020.
The terms of the plea were not discussed during the court proceedings on May 8 before Judge Kendra Ausby, the prosecution, and defense attorney Rodney Gray. However, Carter, a Safe Streets employee, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, with his sentencing scheduled for Sept. 21.
The 61-year-old defendant, nicknamed “Hamza,” is accused of speeding in his vehicle and cutting into a bike lane where the 58-year-old victim was riding on Dec. 20, 2020, according to Fox45 News. Carter was allegedly driving 20 mph over the speed limit when the incident occurred.
