Jury selection began, Oct. 27, in the homicide case against Tyler Liggins, 30. Liggins is charged in connection with the death of a man found in a vehicle following a crash on I-83, northbound.
Liggins is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and first-degree assault in connection with the death of Travon Booth, 43. The case is being heard before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong. Defense attorney Jason Miles is representing Liggins in this trial.
According to the charging documents, a fatal crash occurred on I-83 near the Ruxton Road exit around 6:42 am on July 19, 2025. Booth was ejected from a blue Chevy Cavalier that overturned multiple times. The medical examiner later determined that Booth died from multiple blunt force injuries. The circumstances surrounding how the crash occurred remain unclear.
Investigators believe the events leading to Booth’s death began on the 1100 block of West Northern Parkway. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Liggins and his foster brother David Whitfield carrying a large object that appeared to be a human body to Booth’s car. Investigators also found blood inside the vehicle and a pair of black latex gloves and a black jacket along the travel route.
According to the charging documents, Liggins allegedly told investigators that he and Whitfield fought Booth on the 1100 block of West Northern Parkway. Liggins allegedly said that they both punched and hit Booth in the face, chest, and stomach during two separate altercations. Also, Liggins told investigators that Booth became unresponsive and was bleeding from his nose and mouth.
Liggins reportedly said that he and Whitfield carried Booth to his vehicle and placed him in the backseat via the passenger side. He denied knowing that Whitfield later drove away in Booth’s car. Authorities allege that the vehicle was involved in a fatal crash later that morning.
David Whitfield, Liggins’ co-defendant, is being tried separately. Whitfield’s trial is scheduled to begin on Nov. 30.
