A 32-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced to 18 years incarceration on June 5 after pleading guilty to the murder of a 13-year-old boy earlier this year.
On Monday, Anthony Clark Jr. and his defense attorney, Michael Cooper, appeared for sentencing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John Howard. The defendant was sentenced to 30 years, suspending all but 18 years, and five years of supervised probation for second-degree murder and a concurrent five years for firearm use in a felony or violent crime.
Clark’s case concluded just a few days shy of the six-year anniversary of DiAndre Barnes’ death on the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on June 11, 2016. Another man was also injured in the shooting, which occurred around 1:30 a.m.
After Clark’s conviction was overturned in 2018, the defendant had a retrial in July 2022 that ended in a mistrial before Judge John S. Nugent. Rather than proceed with a second retrial, Clark agreed to plead guilty to the aforementioned charges in February.
