Man Acquitted of Teen’s Death, Mistrial Declared for Other Charges

After finding a defendant not guilty of first-degree murder, a jury could not unanimously decide on the rest of the charges on July 17 for a 29-year-old defendant in Baltimore City Circuit Court. 

Christopher McLean was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment from a car for an Aug. 14 incident at A Plus Grocery and Deli on the 900 block of North Broadway. 

McLean was allegedly part of a carjacking and shooting that killed 16-year-old Bryson Hudson and injured a 26-year-old man. 

The jury found him not guilty of first-degree murder, but could not reach a verdict for the charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to commit firearm use in a felony violent crime, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment from a car. 

The trial was declared a mistrial for the remaining charges. McLean’s new trial date is set for Oct. 29, before Judge John A. Howard.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, on the 900 block of North Broadway, multiple people began firing toward a grocery store from a Nissan Maxima. Hudson, 16, was killed and a 26-year-old man was also wounded in the shooting. Witnesses identified the defendant from surveillance footage of the incident.
