A 24-year-old man charged with vehicular manslaughter was denied bail on March 11, nearly six months after rejecting a plea offer.
During Friday’s bail review, the prosecution informed Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles J. Peters that Baltimore resident Nazr Basim Williams was allegedly driving over 100 mph on May 25, 2020, when he crashed into another vehicle, ejecting its two passengers, one of whom died.
There was also a passenger in Williams’ vehicle who was also injured.
The defendant later rejected a plea offer for 10 years for vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.
Defense attorney James Johnston argued that his client’s flight risk wouldn’t be an issue; however, Judge Peters denied bail given Williams’ prior conviction of second-degree murder for an incident in February 2013.
Williams next court appearance is scheduled on Sept. 12, according to the Maryland Judiciary website.
