A 35-year-old woman accused of shooting at another woman over the victim’s boyfriend will serve one year on home detention in accordance with a plea agreement.

On Jan. 5, Karen Terry and her defense attorney, Robert Cole, appeared for trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton. The defendant opted to accept a plea agreement for five years, suspending all but one year on home detention, and two years of supervised probation for reckless endangerment and a consecutive, fully suspended one year and one year of supervised probation for firing a gun in Baltimore City.

Terry’s initial charges also included attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, having a gun within 100 yards of a public place, having a handgun on her person and having a handgun in a vehicle.

Upon completion of her supervised probation, Judge Middleton agreed to counsel’s request to consider modifying Terry’s sentence to a probation before judgement.

According to charging documents, the female victim was leaving her home on the 200 block of Bethel Court to pick up a food order on March 18, 2023. She began walking down Orleans Street when a dark vehicle pulled up beside her and a woman in the front passenger’s seat asked for the victim by name. When the victim confirmed her identity, the passenger got out of the vehicle and initiated a fighting position.

As the victim dropped her belongings to defend herself, the driver of the vehicle—later identified as Terry—got out of the vehicle and fired two shots at the victim, who was uninjured. Terry and the passenger drove away moments later.

During an interview with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD), the victim told detectives that her boyfriend was cheating on her with Terry. She said this was evident after she found a video of her boyfriend and Terry on her boyfriend’s phone earlier that day.

Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story misstated that the defendant “shot” another person. It should have stated shot “at” the other other person.
