On July 26, a 16-year-old homicide defendant accepted a plea deal before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller.
Defendant Damonyae Malone was charged with first-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime in connection to the 2021 killing of Jaileel Jones, 15.
The juvenile defendant, represented by Deborah St. Jean and Jennifer Davis, accepted a plea for second-degree murder that will not exceed 25 years. He is required to attend counseling and drug rehabilitation. The defendant will not be sentenced for another five years per the terms of his plea agreement.
According to a CBS Baltimore article, the incident occurred on the 5100 block of Chalgrove Avenue on March 1, 2021, when an argument broke out and the defendant shot Jones in the head. Upon the police officers’ arrival, Jones was rushed to a hospital. He passed away from his injuries two days later.
