Jury selection for the trial of Cassandra McRae, 37, and Tavon Singleton, 35, continued on March 25, with 110 new jurors arriving before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton.
The couple is charged with first-degree murder and multiple firearm offenses for killing Antoinette Jennings, 52, and shooting at three others on the 5400 block of York Road.
The incident occurred Jan. 22, 2025, after a children’s basketball game. According to court documents, the shooting followed a dispute between Jennings’ family and McRae.
Recovered surveillance footage captured a person said to be McRae leaving the game and making a phone call. She then entered a grey sedan and allegedly began following the victim’s vehicle. After the cars stopped, McRae reportedly approached the rear passenger side of Jennings’ car while two additional male suspects approached its driver’s side.
“There they go, right there,” McRae reportedly said twice. Shortly after, one of the male suspects fired several shots into Jennings’ vehicle, which was occupied by three other individuals. According to police, Jennings’ granddaughter suffered a graze wound, and her son was shot in the abdomen. The fourth passenger was uninjured. All three suspects fled.
Paramedics pronounced Jennings dead on scene, later ruled a homicide by gunshot wounds.
After analyzing recovered footage, Baltimore detectives were able to identify one of the male suspects who appeared to be Singleton. Additional data showed the defendants appearing to conspire before the incident, and GPS records captured their cellular devices moving together around the scene of the homicide.
The trial is expected to continue on March 26 with opening statements and witness testimony before Judge Middleton.
