The jury selection process for a double shooting case was unexpectedly postponed on March 14 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer.

Donyell Morris, 21, and co-defendant Charles Anderson, 21, are charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy to first-degree murder, two counts of use of a firearm during a violent crime, conspiracy to use of a firearm during a violent crime, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of conspiracy to armed robbery, three counts of robbery, two counts of conspiracy to robbery, having a handgun on person, and conspiracy to wearing/carrying a handgun in connection to an incident on July 2, 2019.

Before jury selection, Morris’ defense attorney, Robert Ness, said he recently received a witness statement which could benefit the defendant’s case.

Morris did not wish to delay his trial any further and declined his defense attorney’s guidance to postpone the proceeding. Judge Schiffer concluded there was no good cause for postponement of Morris’ trial and proceeded with jury selection.

The jury selection process came to a halt when Ness experienced trouble breathing. Due to Ness’ medical issues, the jury selection process was delayed until Wednesday.

Morris and Anderson will be tried separately.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Morris and his co-defendant Charles Anderson allegedly fatally shot a man in the chest and a woman in the head on July 2, 2019, during an armed robbery on the 1200 block of Bloomingdale Road.
