Jury selection began April 21 in the murder trial of 45-year-old Jerrod Fenwick, who is accused of participating in a coordinated ambush that left 38-year-old Dwayne Flintall dead in February 2024.
Fenwick, who faces charges of first-degree murder and multiple firearm violations, is being tried before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard. The state alleges Fenwick was one of three armed men who targeted Flintall in the attack.
The investigation began on the afternoon of Feb. 16, 2024, when a Baltimore Police lieutenant patrolling near the 900 block of N. Carrollton Avenue heard rapid gunfire. Moments later, the officer observed a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee with paper temporary tags fleeing the area at a high speed. Upon arriving at the scene, units discovered Flintall lying prone on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crime lab technicians recovered over 40 cartridge casings.. According to charging documents, surveillance footage captured the suspect vehicle parking on North Carrollton Avenue in wait for the victim. When Flintall exited his vehicle, three armed men allegedly emerged from the Jeep and opened fire.
Investigators developed Fenwick as a person of interest after locating the suspect vehicle in April 2024, less than 100 yards from the residence of a known associate, 29-year-old Davontaye Watkins. Digital evidence reportedly showed Fenwick and Watkins, also accused in the murder, communicating about the incident before, during, and after it occurred. Court records indicate that biological evidence matching Watkins was also recovered from the vehicle.
The trial is set to continue through the week.
