A jury found Cahari A. Ferguson, 21, guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder where death would likely be the result for brutally stabbing Sean Neal Malik Brown, 21, more than 20 times on May 21, 2023.
Ferguson was initially charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to an incident which occurred in the 2700 block of N. Longwood Street near Hanlon Park. Brown was found with 23 stab wounds to his face and body.
Ferguson, who was represented by defense attorneys Koryn High and Jeremy Eldridge, could face a maximum sentence of life behind bars.
An expert from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OME) found stab wounds in Brown’s heart, left lung, liver, diaphragm and neck during an autopsy. The stabbing allegedly took place during a marijuana sale.
Cellular data and cell site mapping placed Ferguson and 21-year-old co-defendant Tyrell White around the scene of the crime. White, who admitted to disposing of Brown’s backpack and credit card following the crime, is expected to plead guilty later this month to being an accessory.
As previously reported, Ferguson confessed his involvement in the stabbing to White, who later testified against Ferguson, claiming he saw an army knife and blood on his hat and shoes returning to a vehicle.
Throughout the hearing, High and Eldridge maintained the prosecution lacked sufficient evidence to incriminate Ferguson.
Ferguson is scheduled for a disposition hearing on Sept. 26 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard.
