Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn set a trial date for a 15-year-old boy accused of committing murder during a Dec. 5 reception court proceeding.

Damonyae Malone is charged with first-degree murder and firearm use during a violent crime in connection to the death of 15-year-old Jaileel Jones on March 4, 2021, on the 5100 block of Chalgrove Avenue.

At Monday’s hearing, Malone’s defense attorneys, Felicia Cisela and Jennifer Davis, worked with the prosecution to arrange a trial date for the defendant. They agreed on July 26, 2023.

According to CBS Baltimore, the incident allegedly ensued after an argument arose between the two boys. Malone reportedly opened fire on Jones, shooting him in the head.

Upon the police’s arrival, Jones was taken to an area hospital for treatment, where he eventually succumbed to injuries on March 6.

Baltimore Police Department Commissioner Michael Harrison lamented the loss, stating that he and other officers had been helping Jones seek employment to create an alternate pathway from crime.

Malone will be charged as an adult with first and second-degree murder for his actions that day.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Schiffer will preside over this trial.
