Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland granted the prosecution’s request to set a pre-trial conference date for vehicular manslaughter defendant Antoinette Harris after defense attorney Karyn Mariwether informed the court on March 7 she needed time to consider a plea offer.

Harris faces seven charges, including vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, driving with suspended license, knowingly driving an uninsured vehicle, and several other charges in connection to a Nov. 1, 2021 incident in which she allegedly hit two pedestrians with her car.

According to charging documents, Harris was driving opposite to the direction of traffic in a 2010 silver Honda with expired temporary tags when she made a sharp turn right toward the 1400 block of Fleet Street. As she turned, Harris allegedly hit two pedestrians who were crossing the street, leaving left tire marks on the pavement as she veered into a tree and brick wall.

Both victims were rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. One of two pedestrians, Trayon McKnight, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officers later learned that Harris was allegedly driving between 35 and 42 mph in a 25 mph zone with an expired learner’s permit at the time of the incident.

Harris and Meriwether are set to return to court April 4.
