Judge Schedules Trial Date for Baltimore Man Charged with Murder

A 30-year-old Baltimore man charged with first-degree murder received a new trial date on Oct. 11 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Sean Melton Jr. is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and having a loaded handgun in a vehicle in connection to an incident on June 24, 2019.

The prosecution offered a plea of life, suspending all but 60 years, and five years of probation for first-degree murder, but the defendant and his defense counsel rejected deal.

According to the Baltimore Police Department, Melton was allegedly involved in an argument with the 43-year-old victim on the 2200 block of Ruskin Avenue. The victim, who attempted to walk away after the argument escalated, was followed by Melton who allegedly shot the man before leaving the area.

The victim was taken to Shock Trauma where he later died from his injuries.

The defendant is scheduled for trial on March 28, 2023, with Judge Christopher L. Panos presiding. It is expected to last four days.
