Judge Not Satisfied with Attempted Homicide Defendant’s Plea offer

During the reading of a plea offer July 25, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Videtta A. Brown was not satisfied with the prosecution’s deal for a 19-year-old attempted homicide defendant.

Tylon Tates is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault in connection to an incident that occurred on Oct. 25, 2021.

Judge Brown listened as the prosecution presented Tates with a plea offer of 45 years in prison suspending all but 15 years for attempted first-degree murder and 10 years in prison for use of a firearm during a violent crime with the first five years without parole and five years on supervised probation. The terms were set to run concurrently.

Judge Brown declined the offer, arguing that the sentence should run consecutively given the fact that Tates was on home detention for gun related charges when another incident occurred.

After Tates spoke with his defense attorney David Walsh-Little, he accepted the judge’s recommendation to have the two sentences run consecutively.

According to a press release, Tates shot a 23-year-old man on the 3700 block of Harlem Avenue on Oct. 25, 2021.
