Baltimore Teen Rejects Plea Deal, Proceeds to Trial for Attempted Murder

A 19-year-old Baltimore resident rejected a plea of 15 years in prison before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on June 30. 

Tylon Tates is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm during a violent crime, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault in connection to an incident that occurred on Oct. 25, 2021. 

Tates was presented a plea of 40 years, suspending all but 15 years in prison, with five years of supervised probation, for attempted first-degree murder. The plea also contained an additional five years without parole for use of a firearm during a violent crime. The terms were set to run concurrently.

According to a press release, Tates allegedly shot a 23-year-old man on the 3700 block of Harlem Avenue on Oct. 25.

He is being represented by defense attorney David Walsh-Little. 

Tates’ trial is set to begin on July 25 with Judge Videtta A. Brown presiding.
