Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin ended a mental observation hearing for attempted murder defendant Marcel Johnson, 22, after he grew agitated and denied suffering from mental illness on April 2.
Johnson is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and related firearm charges in connection to an Oct. 4, 2024 shooting that left an unnamed victim injured. The incident occurred following an altercation near the 1700 block of Presstman Street.
Johnson previously rejected a plea offer of 15 years on Feb. 21.
After reviewing medical reports, Judge Rasin found Johnson incompetent and a danger to himself and others.
“I never said that I suffer from mental anything,” Johnson told Judge Rasin.
He proceeded to make numerous agitated statements, leading Judge Rasin to end the hearing. She recommended that he take the medications prescribed to him at the hospital where he will be held until his April 18 jury trial before Judge Yvette M. Bryant.
