A 33-year-old homicide defendant with two prior convictions was denied bail on March 8 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles J. Peters.
Craig Carter is charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime, having a handgun in a vehicle, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to an incident on May 17, 2021.
During a bail hearing on Tuesday, Judge Peters listened as the prosecutor informed the court that the defendant also has a pending case in Hartford County. The prosecutor also recommended that the defendant be held without bail, deeming him a threat to public safety and a flight risk.
Carter’s defense attorney, David Walsh-Little, argued that there was no gun recovered that matched any of the ballistics evidence for the shooting. Walsh-Little also said there were no eyewitnesses that were disclosed by the prosecutor.
In addition, Walsh-Little added that his client suffers from depression and anxiety making lock down and quarantining harder.
After listening to counsel, Judge Peters denied the defendant’s bail, deeming him a threat to public safety.
The defendant has two prior firearm convictions and a prior armed robbery conviction on July 17, 2019.
According to CBS Baltimore, on May 17, 2021, officers were called to the 200 block of Harmison Street, where they found 40-year-old Ronald White suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. White was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Carter’s trial is scheduled for Aug. 8 with Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer presiding.
