Homicide Defendant Rejects Plea Offer

A 37-year-old man charged with first-degree murder rejected a plea offer of 20 years on April 25 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn. 

Derrick Creek is charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime and possession of a friearm with a felony conviction in connection to an incident on Oct. 30, 2021. 

Judge Phinn listened as the prosecutor presented a plea of 20 years in prison for first-degree murder with the first five years without parole for use of a firearm during a violent crime. The charges are set to run consecutively.  

Creek was represented by defense attorney Lawrence Rosenberg.

According to Fox Baltimore, Johns Wilford, Jr, 45 was fatally shot in the head on October 30, 2021, in the 1000 block of Hillman Street at E. Chase Street. Eastern District patrol officers arrived at the location and discovered the victim was suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics transported him to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he later died. 

Creek’s next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 30, to select a 2023 trial date.
