Homicide defendant Darius Savoy, 25, appeared with his attorney Roya Hanna in mental health court to request a competency evaluation on Feb. 28.

He is currently being charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime, two counts of carrying or transporting a handgun and first-degree assault in connection to an April 13, 2023, incident.

The request was granted by Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin upon hearing from Hanna that his client has a history of schizophrenia and a history of lead paint exposure. She said Savoy was unable to focus on details about the case during their meetings.

Savoy told Judge Rasin he has been hearing voices since he was 12 or 13 years old and still hears them today despite being on medication behind bars.

Savoy is scheduled to return to mental health court on March 6  when the results from his competency evaluation come in. The prosecution had no objections to the request.
