Counsel for Damontrae Rich agreed to postpone his non-fatal shooting case on Feb. 9, pending the defendant’s decision to take a plea for a separate drug trafficking charge.

According to the prosecution, Rich is facing four weapons charges, including discharging firearms and reckless endangerment for an incident on Aug. 5, 2022. However, the prosecutor said she would dismiss these charges should the defendant accept a plea for drug trafficking that occurred the following month during another incident.

The plea currently requires a mandatory minimum sentence, which defense counsel said he wants to work out with the prosecution before his client makes a decision. The minimum sentence nor additional details of the plea were discussed.

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn postponed the case to March 17 to allow counsel time to address the issue.
