Defendant Accepts Plea in West North Avenue Non-Fatal Shooting 

On March 5, a plea agreement hearing was held before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G. Williams. 

During the proceeding, the assistant state’s attorney acknowledged mitigating circumstances that the court should take into consideration, mainly that the prosecution couldn’t directly connect the defendant to an incident that took place on Dec. 29, 2022, on the 1200 block of West North Avenue.

The defendant’s defense attorney Amanda Savage was present in the courtroom. 

Tavon Lawson, 42, is charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person and discharging a gun within Baltimore City. 

Lawson accepted a plea agreement offered by the prosecution. The terms–for firearm possession with a felony conviction, Lawson will serve 15 years, suspending all but three years, with three years of supervised probation. He will also be required to register as a gun offender. The defendant will serve his three-year sentence on home detention. 

According to District Court of Maryland documents, on Dec. 29, 2022, Baltimore Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert on the 1200 block of West North Avenue. Upon arrival at the scene, detectives collected various items of clothing, shell casings , an Apple Iphone and traces of blood.

Two shooting victims were treated at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Lawson was also injured in the shooting and received treatment for his gunshot wounds.
