The man charged in a 2022 non-fatal shooting on Pennsylvania Avenue told Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn he was not satisfied with his attorney.

Damar Wise, who Singleton Matthews represented for the proceeding, requested a new attorney because his current one Joseph Owens has not done what he has asked.

Judge Phinn continued the hearing to Aug. 30 to allow Wise, 20, to find a new attorney.

The defendant rejected a plea offer while incarcerated. The exact details of the plea are unknown.

According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Wise is charged with three counts each of first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, Firearm use in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun on his person, possession of a firearm as a minor and discharging a firearm in connection to a Aug. 6, 2022 incident.

Charging documents state that officers responded to the intersection of the 1700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue and the 600 block of Laurens street for a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival officers noticed several 9mm shell casings on the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.

The victim walked into shock trauma suffering from a gunshot wound. CCTV footage allegedly caught Wise shooting at the victim. This footage was used to identify the defendant as a suspect.
