The attempted murder trial of an Owings Mills woman was postponed to December on Sept. 19 as counsel expressed hopes to resolve the case prior to trial.

Markia Vaughn appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn on Sept. 19 when the prosecution and defense attorneys, Judit Otvos and Jason Rodriguez, agreed on a new trial date of Dec. 11 before Judge Christopher L. Panos. Counsel informed Judge Phinn they anticipated reaching a resolution before the December trial date but requested to keep the aforementioned date for a potential sentencing.

The 19-year-old defendant was initially scheduled to begin a four-day jury trial on Sept. 18 before Judge Panos; however, counsel requested a morning recess and resumed in the afternoon when they approached Judge Panos’ bench for a private discussion. Soon after, Judge Panos announced Vaughn’s case would be in recess until Nov. 1—a date that was later discarded due to the judge’s availability.

Vaughn is currently charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, conspiracy to first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, conspiracy to firearm use in a felony or violent crime, first-degree assault, conspiracy to first-degree assault, conspiracy to armed carjacking, attempted armed carjacking, conspiracy to armed robbery, armed robbery and reckless endangerment. These charges stem from an incident on Feb. 10, 2022.
