Container of Human Remains Found in Northwest District

Homicide detectives with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) have launched an investigation into the discovery of a container of human remains found on March 7.

On Friday, at approximately 5:37 p.m., Northwest District patrol officers were dispatched to the 3900 block of Liberty Heights Avenue to investigate a call for police assistance.

When officers arrived at the location, Officers were advised that there was a black container containing possible human remains in the curtilage of the 3400 block of Garrison Boulevard. The remains were then transported to the Medical Examiners’ Office for an autopsy.

On March 8, the Medical Examiners’ Office ruled the remains to be human and the cause of death a homicide.

On March 21, officers with BPD identified the remains as belonging to 75-year-old Versey Spell.

The victim was first reported missing to police in October 2022, from her home in the 3900 block of Barrington Road.

Homicide detectives are actively investigating this murder.
