On the second day of his trial, an attempted murder defendant was sentenced by Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Alan C. Lazerow after pleading guilty.
Sean Cherry,21, is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and firing a gun among other weapons charges for a non-fatal shooting that occurred on Sept. 16, 2023.
On Nov. 4, the second of his jury trial, Cherry pleaded guilty to five counts, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, firearm use in a felony and two counts of first-degree assault.
Judge Lazerow accepted the terms of the plea deal as discussed by the prosecution and Cherry’s attorney, Christopher O’Meara.
Cherry was sentenced to 70 years, with all but 35 years suspended with 5 years of supervised probation and 5 years without possibility of parole for first-degree attempted murder. The sentences for the other charges are slated to run concurrently.
When released, Cherry will have to register as a gun offender.
