A 50-year-old Baltimore man rejected a plea offer on Aug. 23 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Lamont Mealy is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, and giving a false statement to an officer. He was charged with these crimes in November of 2020. The incident occurred on August 5, 2020.

On Monday, Judge Melissa M. Phinn listened as the prosecutor presented Mealy with a plea of life for first-degree murder and a concurrent 20 years for firearm use in a violent crime.

Defense attorney Shannon Heery and Mealy rejected the offer.

Mealy also declined to waive his Hick’s date, which is a defendant’s right to be tried within 180 days after their first court appearance. However, Judge Phinn found probable cause to delay the trial due to counsels’ unavailability.

The trial is scheduled for Nov. 30.
