The Baltimore Police Department has made an arrest for the murder of 54-year-old Ahnmad Artis that occurred on the 1800 block of Ashburton Street at approximately 9:51 a.m.

According to a news release, on Feb. 11, patrol officers were called to investigate a shot spotter alert, where they found an unidentified man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as Artis and taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Detectives identified 51-year old repeat violent offender Garrett Smith as the shooter. Investigators say they believe the killing stemmed from a dispute.

Following his arrest, Smith was taken to central booking, where he has been charged with first-degree murder.
