Man Accepts Plea Deal in Shooting Family Member

A Baltimore man accepted July 8 a plea deal for shooting his family member who was left in grave condition at a hospital 

Malik Alford, 23,  pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder and firearm use in a felony violent crime for shooting a man he grew up with on the 5300 block of Jamestown Court on Sept. 9, 2023. He was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. 

For both charges, he was given 30 years total with all years suspended except for 10 year and five years without parole the possibility of parole concurrently. Upon his release, he must serve three years of supervised probation, and he must not have any contact with the victim. 

The 23-year-old defendant was originally charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and firing a gun in Baltimore City.

According to the prosecution, Alford and the victim grew up together and were family members. She told Baltimore City Circuit Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer that the victim told her that Alford indirectly apologized to him and that he appreciated it. 

Alford was represented by Augustine Okeke.
