A jury found a 36-year-old defendant guilty of a self-inflicted shooting on June 26.
Timothy Sutton was found guilty of firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of ammunition and giving a false statement to a police officer for a shooting on April 29, 2023.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department responded to Franklin Square Hospital for a reported walk-in shooting victim. Sutton suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg, and when investigators talked to Sutton, he stated that he was shot on the 5800 block of Belair Road by an unidentifiable suspect.
During trial, Sutton’s defense attorney, Brandon Taylor, argued that it was Sutton’s girlfriend who shot him, and he fabricated this and other stories in order to protect him and his girlfriend from legal action.
The prosecution argued that Sutton did not bring up this information during the interview, and that there were better ways of protecting his girlfriend, as she was arrested for drug offenses.
Sutton was sentenced to eight years by Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong on June 26.
