A non-fatal shooting defendant went before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeannie J. Hong for the beginning of his trial, where he claimed he was not responsible for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Timothy Sutton, 36, is charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm and making a false statement to a police officer for an April 29, 2023, incident, where he was shot in the leg.
In the prosecution’s opening statements June 26, she claimed that the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) detective that responded to the scene found surveillance footage of Sutton leaving his house on the 5800 block of Belair Road, while holding his leg. The prosecutor said the reason Sutton made up three different stories was because he was embarrassed to admit that he accidentally shot himself, in addition to not being allowed to own a firearm.
Sutton’s defense attorney, Brandon Taylor, stated that Sutton was shot, but he is not the one responsible for it. He claimed that the mother of Sutton’s children shot him, but he took responsibility in order to keep her from going to jail.
His trial is slated to continue June 27.
