On Jan. 17, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled the jury trial of a 40-year-old man accused of a 2022 attempted murder.
Kenneth Oakley is charged with attempted first- and second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, firearm possession with a felony conviction, possession of firearms in a controlled dangerous substance offense, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, illegal possession of ammunition and discharging firearms in connection to a Sept. 24, 2022, incident.
Oakley rejected the prosecution’s plea offer of life, suspending all but 50 years, with five years of probation for attempted first-degree murder and a concurrent five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Oakley would have also been required to register as a gun offender and stay away from the victim in this case as part of the plea agreement.
Judge Copeland scheduled Oakley’s three-day trial as a backup case before Judge Robert K. Taylor, Jr. Oakley and defense attorney Michael Lawlor will next appear in court on April 3.
According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department investigators identified Oakley using Ring camera footage and a previous mugshot, as the man who allegedly shot a handgun twice on the 1300 block of Edison Highway.
