Judge Schedules Trial for Defendant Accused of Recreation Center Shooting

On Oct. 16, a nineteen-year-old attempted murder defendant appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn to hear a prosecution plea offer.

Trevon Moore is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun within 100 yards of the public, illegal possession of ammunition and discharging firearms in connection to a Jan. 24 incident.

Moore and his attorney, Lawrence Rosenberg, rejected the prosecution’s offer for 25 years, suspending all but 10 years, for first-degree assault with five years of supervised probation and a consecutive five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Moore would have also been required to register as a gun offender.

Judge Phinn scheduled Moore’s three-day trial to begin on Jan. 9, 2024, before Judge Dana M. Middleton.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, surveillance footage showed Moore shooting at parents and another student who were entering the gym of the Roosevelt Park Recreation Center on the 1200 block of West 36th Street. Staff members told police the dispute was over an interaction with a female student.
