On Oct. 10, a defendant accused of a 2019 murder appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn to hear a plea offer and schedule a trial date.

Melvin Wright is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime and having a loaded handgun on his person in connection to the Jan. 9, 2019, murder of 20-year-old Tavon Travis Wilson on the 3600 block of Marmon Avenue.

Wright, 27, rejected a global plea offer of life, suspending all but 50 years.

Wright and his attorney, Jerry Tarud, will appear for trial on Jan. 23, 2024, before Judge John A. Howard.
