On July 6, a man charged with attempted murder in August 2022 accepted a plea agreement before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller.

Defendant Eric McCree, represented by Karyn Meriwether, accepted a plea of 20 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole for use of a firearm in a felony violent crime and a concurrent sentence of 30 years, suspending all but five years, for second-degree attempted murder. The defendant must also register as a gun offender.

The prosecutor mentioned that the 31-year-old was on ecstasy and Xanax during the incident and that McCree likely would have interpreted the situation differently and not shot the victim had he been sober.

According to court documents, on Aug. 21, 2018, officers responded to 5300 block of Frankford Avenue for a shooting. Officers located the victim in front of a beauty supply store suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to both arms. Medics responded and quickly transported the victim to a local hospital for immediate medical attention.

Further investigation from surveillance cameras captured the shooting and gave a clear view of the suspect. Still images of the video footage were used to create a flyer to help identify the suspect. An officer who had prior contact with McCree was able to positively identify him from the flyer.

McCree was charged with first-degree attempted murder, using a firearm in a felony violent crime, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, two counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal ammunition, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a gun on his person, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, having a gun in a vehicle, discharging a firearm, and three counts of having a gun within 100 yards.
