On July 26, a 53-year-old defendant charged with murder in 2021 was found competent and criminally responsible for his charges in response to a previously entered not criminally responsible (NCR) plea.
Defendant Keith Fleming, represented by defense counsel Sharon Bogins Eberhart, was found competent in a mental health court on Wednesday, according to a report read by Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin.
On April 13, Fleming pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in addition to firearm use in the commission of a felony violent crime and four other counts of reckless endangerment in connection to an incident on Sep. 14, 2021.
Due to Fleming’s competency, Judge Rasin stated Fleming would continue sentencing on Sept. 7.
According to CBS News, Fleming is accused of the fatal shooting of 55-year-old Pamala Pitts, whose body was found in a house fire scene near Abbott Court and Homewood Avenue.
An autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Pitts’ death a homicide by shooting.
Based on a preliminary investigation, homicide detectives identified Fleming as the shooting suspect and got a warrant for his arrest. According to the Baltimore Police Department, Fleming was arrested and booked into the Baltimore City Central Booking Intake Facility on Sept. 30, 2021.
