On July 26, Baltimore City Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones sent the non-fatal shooting trial of Ricardo Daniel Alleyne to reception court for rescheduling.
Defense attorney Lawrence Rosenberg requested the postponement as he was not prepared for trial, stating specifically that he didn’t summon enough witnesses or read through all of the discovery sent by the prosecution. This is the second time the trial has been postponed due to Rosenberg.
The 37-year-old defendant’s next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 3.
Alleyne, 37, is charged with first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in the commission of a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, and discharging firearms in connection to Oct. 9, 2022 incident.
According to court documents, Baltimore police responded to the 200 block of Augusta Avenue, where they discovered a man in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. Alleyne had been following the victim after the victim had stolen a car from Alleyne’s job and was attempting to hold him in one place until police could arrive. Alleyne admitted he shot the victim when he made a move as if he was grabbing a concealed gun.
Medics transported the shooting victim to the University of Maryland Hospital, where he recovered.
