On March 29, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn granted defense counsel Andrea Jaskulsky’s trial postponement request due to needing more time to review evidence.
Jaskulsky informed the court on Wednesday that she and the defendant, Steven Jones, had yet to receive some medical records and needed more time to analyze recently received jail calls pertaining to the defendant.
Jones, 21, is charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, and conspiracy to commit the use of a firearm during a felony violent crime in connection to the non-fatal shooting of a 45-year-old male victim on Feb. 22, 2022, alongside his co-defendant Thomas Brooks.
According to previous Baltimore Witness reporting, Brooks and his nephew, Jones, shot the victim on the 1000 block of East 20th Street for allegedly beating Brooks’ sister. The victim reportedly strangled Brooks’ sister in Feb. 2022 then escaped from their home as Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers arrived at the scene.
Brooks’ trial is scheduled for June 27 with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea Handy presiding. It is expected to last three days.
Jones’ trial is scheduled for Aug. 29 with Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Christopher Panos presiding. It is expected to last three days.
