On May 19, an attempted murder defendant accepted a guilty plea for a non-fatal shooting before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Ausby

The prosecution offered defendant Khaiyon Moffatt a plea of 25 years suspended time, with five years of supervised probation for first-degree assault and three years for having a handgun on his person.

In addition, the 22-year-old defendant will have to stay away from the victim and register as a gun offender.

Moffatt and his defense attorney, Charles Paul, accepted the plea.

During Friday’s hearing, Paul also recommended his client enroll in a mental health program for young offenders.

According to the assistant state’s attorney, on May 30, 2022, Moffatt admitted to walking to the shooting scene but not to the shooting, which left the victim with a wound to the left arm.

In Dec. 2022, Moffatt rejected a plea of 50 years, suspending all but 20 years and five years of supervised probation for conspiracy of first-degree murder and five years without parole for conspiracy of firearm use in a felony violent crime.
