D’Amontae Taylor, 23, accepted a plea agreement for a shooting on July 21 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence R. Daniels.
Taylor was charged with attempted first- and second- degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and related firearm offenses in connection with an Oct. 29, 2025 incident on Wabash Avenue.
According to charging documents, after Taylor was told repeatedly by his father to turn his music down, he was overheard saying he was going to kill him if he kept bothering him. The victim, Taylor’s father, then left the apartment to call the police.
Moments later, Taylor allegedly jumped from his bedroom window and fired two rounds towards his father’s bedroom window. Investigators also recovered additional shell casings inside the apartment.
Taylor, represented by defense attorney Augustine Okeke, accepted the binding plea agreement to first-degree assault and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, suspending all but three years, followed by three years supervised probation. He also must undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and complete any recommended treatment.
Before imposing the sentence, Judge Daniels noted that he believed the agreement was lenient. Prosecutors said they are placing significant emphasis on drug treatment becauseTaylor was under the influence during the offense, and noted that he has no prior criminal convictions and strong family support.
Addressing Taylor, Judge Daniels said, “It is a simple task but not necessarily an easy one,” encouraging him to take advantage of the opportunity to turn his life around.
