Homicide Defendant’s Jury Selection Delayed to Address Witness Issue

Jury selection for homicide defendant Alex Benbow was pushed back a day on Feb. 15 to allow the prosecution to address a potential issue with a witness.

Benbow, 50, was initially scheduled for a jury selection before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John Howard on Wednesday morning. The prosecutor informed the judge that one of her witnesses died from a drug overdose, while another witness suffered a stroke and was currently in a healthcare facility.

The prosecutor requested Judge Howard postpone jury selection until Feb. 16 so she can determine whether her remaining witness will be able to testify. If the witness can’t testify, she said, the prosecution will not move forward with the case.

Defense attorney Josh Insley was skeptical of the witness’ availability given the health issues but agreed to the postponement.
