Defendant Rejects Plea in 2022 Frankford Avenue Attempted Murder Case

Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn scheduled a trial date for a defendant accused of attempted first-degree murder during a Jan. 24 reception court proceeding.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the prosecution offered the defendant Eric McCree life, suspending all but 30 years with five years of supervised probation for attempted first-degree murder and a consecutive charge of five years without the possibility of parole for the use of a firearm in a felony violent crime. The defendant would also be required to stay away from the victim.

The 30-year-old defendant and stand-in defense attorney, on behalf of Karyn Meriwether, rejected the plea.

Judge Phinn scheduled McCree’s trial to take place before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller on July 6. The trial is expected to last for two days.

According to the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) on August 18 2022, a 45-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip on the 5300 block of Frankford Avenue. McCree was arrested four weeks later after the incident.

McCree is charged with attempted first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, two counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun on his person, having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, having a handgun in a vehicle, discharging a firearm, and three counts of having a handgun within 100 yards of a school or college.
