Man Convicted of Shooting Ex after Argument Sentenced to 50 Years

A Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge sentenced 24-year-old Carroll Carter to 50 years incarceration on Nov. 4 for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Carter was previously found guilty of attempted second-degree murder in September. During Friday’s proceedings, Judge Jennifer Schiffer imposed a sentence of 30 years for attempted second-degree murder, a consecutive 20 years for firearm use in a felony violent crime, and a concurrent five years for firearm possession with a felony conviction.

The incident occurred in January 2019 when the defendant shot his ex-girlfriend in the neck after an argument.

According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Carter’s defense attorney, Catherine Flynn, filed an appeal with the Court of Special Appeals on Nov. 28.
